Having a pet is a big responsibility. They count on you to provide them with the basics such as shelter, food, water, exercise and regular veterinary care. In return, they provide you a lifetime of unconditional love, friendship and loyalty.

Here at Ready Sit Go Dog Training, we are committed in helping dog owners raise healthy and happy dogs. If you have a dog, use these dos and don’ts as a guide to make sure you’re fulfilling your obligations as a dog owner.

Dos

Exercise your pet

Well-exercised pets are much happier and healthier as compared to their couch potato counterparts. The more physically and mentally fit your dog is, the less likely it is to suffer from serious medical conditions. Throw a ball around, run around the yard or take him out for a walk – anything to get your dog up and moving.

Feed high quality diet

Good nutrition enhances the pet’s quality and quantity of life. Work with your veterinarian to find the best foods for your dog’s size, age and activity level. Read the ingredients just as you would with your own food.

Don’ts

Skimp on routine vet visits

Your pet needs at least one visit a year to his vet to make sure that he’s in top shape. Some owners, however, would only have their dogs checked when they’re sick.

Dogs do a good job in masking pain and illnesses. By the time you notice that something is wrong with Fido, it might be too late. Don’t wait ‘till a problem occurs before bringing your dog to the vet.

Give human foods and snacks

It may be tempting to share your meals with your furry best friend, but please resist the urge to do so. Feeding your pet too much may lead to them putting on weight, which can lead to extensive health problems. Add to that, some human foods can be toxic to pets.
