Things to Pack When Travelling with Dogs

When animal lovers plan a vacation, they usually consider taking their pets with them. However, travelling with dogs can be challenging for both you and your four-legged pal.

With careful preparation and a few basic supplies, you can make your trip easier and safer for your dog. Here are some of the most common items to carry along when travelling with your pet.

Food and water

If your dog is on a special diet or you’re not sure your brand of food will be available at your destination, we suggest that you bring enough food for the entire trip. Don’t forget to pack a can opener if you use canned food. Also, you may want to bring along water from home since water in different places can smell and taste different. If your dog is used to drinking water from home, she may not want to drink it. Don’t forget to bring Fido’s favorite food and water bowls.

Pet’s health record

Bring a copy of her medical records, including proof of vaccination and rabies certificate. Make sure that your copy of your dog’s shot record is up-to-date. This is especially important if you’re travelling internationally. It is also a good idea to pack medications, supplements and vitamins your dog needs to stay healthy.

If this is her first-time to ride a plane or go on a road trip, she may be a bundle of nerves. Chew toys may help calm even the most anxious pet. Provide distraction and help ease her discomfort by packing as many toys as you can.

Picture of your pet

Make sure you have a clear picture of you and your pet on your phone. In case she gets lost, a current photo will make it easier for others to help you find your pet. Plus, many shelters require visual confirmation of ownership before releasing them to their rightful owners.
